Ofqual ACCREDITATION

Anglia Examinations have negotiated a co-operative agreement with a highly respected UK awarding body, which ensures full accreditation and recognition for its qualifications. The awarding body, Ascentis, offers learners a wide range of qualifications to help with their progression to employment or higher education. Ascentis is a Ofqual approved UK national awarding body.

This co-operation means that the top four levels of Anglia exams:

B1 Intermediate (UK Entry level)
B2 Advanced (UK level 1)
C1 Proficiency (UK level 2)
C2 Masters (UK level 3)

are now fully accredited by Ofqual as Ascentis ESOL International qualifications.

Everyone who takes and passes an Anglia examination at one of the top four levels not only passes that level, but will also have achieved a Ofqual accredited Ascentis ESOL International qualification.

What is Ofqual?

Ofqual, which is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, is a UK government sponsored public body which oversees the national curriculum of the UK and all the associated assessments and examinations.

It is the only official body in the UK with the power to accredit qualifications. Examinations and examination boards have to go through a very rigorous process of approval before they can be accredited. We are therefore delighted that we can offer our candidates Ofqual accredited qualifications with Anglia examinations: governments, universities, colleges of higher education, and employers can all have full confidence in them.

Why did Anglia work with Ascentis to accredit its examinations? Why didn't it just accredit them on its own?

Anglia Examinations is a specialist examination board. It offers English examinations for international students. It doesn't offer any other type of qualifications for UK school students. All our expertise at Anglia examinations since we began operating from Chichester College in 1994 has been focused on the service we provide to our international candidates. In the UK, you can't just accredit one set of examinations with Ofqual on their own, even if they are ESOL International qualifications like ours. You have to do so through a general national UK awarding body (examination board) offering qualifications in a wide variety of different subjects to UK students too. Therefore, Ascentis joined with us to add new ESOL International qualifications to the qualifications that their awarding body offers and provide a route for us to offer enhanced qualifications for our candidates.

For all the candidates, this means that your Anglia examinations at B1 B2 C1 and C2 ( i.e. Anglia Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency and Masters) now also give you ESOL International Ofqual-accredited qualifications at these levels.

This is wonderful news not only for anyone taking an Anglia examination but also for all our representatives, clients and teachers in Anglia schools in many parts of the world who have worked hard over the last few years to help us consolidate our official accreditation and international recognition.
