The History of AcCEPT Proficiency

Chart showing Anglia levels as steps

Anglia Examinations has ten levels of General English and four levels of Business English. These cover four bands: Young Learners, General Intermediate, Higher Levels and the Business Levels as seen in the chart above.

The Proficiency Level, level 9, has been listed by UCAS since 2004 as a qualification which can be accepted to show international student competence in the English language and as such has been accepted by many UK institutions.

The collaboration of Anglia and Ascentis, which began in 2008, has given the qualifications full accreditation and therefore further international recognition. At this time, it was clear that there was also a need for the C1 Proficiency level to develop a focus specifically on candidates planning to enter higher education in the UK or English-medium universities around the world. It was therefore decided that this level should be redesigned to set it firmly in the context of academic life, with an emphasis on English for academic purposes.
