The History of Anglia Examinations
Anglia Examinations is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chichester College Group. Anglia Examinations has been based in Chichester, England, since 1993. Since then we have grown steadily by offering reputable English Language exams to hundreds of thousand of candidates every year. We provide International ESOL exams in a growing number of countries and are constantly adding to our database of universities, local government and employers who recognise Anglia exams as reliable evidence of English Language capability.
The Anglia Story (Timeline)


Anglia Examinations was acquired by Chichester College in 1993 from Michael Middleton and Dr Raistrick based in Cyprus and was incorporated as Anglia Examination Syndicate Ltd.


First end of year tests were held in Cyprus and delivered from Chichester College. Our first two franchisees; Michael Middleton and Polis Kaitis, were appointed to share the territory.


Anglia Examinations starts operating in the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Argentina.

Two new levels are added to make up our ten-level suite of ESOL exams


Speaking exams were added to our suite of ESOL English exams.


The Anglia exams become available in Venezuela, Spain, Portugal, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Serbia and Russia.


Anglia and OCNW achieve QCA Approval for the top four levels of the General English suite of tests.


Franchise agreements are signed for China and Taiwan.


Anglia's ESOL exams are taken in: Uruguay, Chile, Paraquay, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Libya, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Anglia exam papers are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference.


Anglia and AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group partner to achieve Ofqual approval for the top four levels of the General English suite of tests. Papers are revised following a consultation...


More franchise agreements are signed and Anglia is now available in: Mexico, Brazil, United States, Italy, Slovakia, Greece, Czech Republic, Romania, Nigeria, Morocco, Mongolia and Macau.

Anglia celebrates its 25th Anniversary at Chichester College with a two-day conference held in February, attended by representatives from 25 countries

Exam papers are revised and updated following a reaccreditation process with AIM Qualifications and Awards


Anglia Netherlands grows to become the most popular ESOL exam in the Netherlands whilst celebrating its 25th Birthday as a valued Anglia partner.


Anglia's Highest level Exam (Mastery) achieves UCAS tariff points enabling UK University applicants to add them to their UCAS tariff score.
