  1. Germany is one of the most connected countries in Europe- sharing borders with nine other countries.
  2. Germany is home to the first printed book. The Gutenberg Bible, also known as the Mazarin Bible was printed by Jahannes Gutenberg in around 1445.
  3. Germans love both Bread and sausage. There are over three-hundred kind of bread in Germany and over 1000 types of sausage!
  4. Spreuerhofstrasse in Reutlingen is the world narrowest street and is only 31cm wide at its narrowest
  5. Germany boast between 20,000 and 25,000 castles owing to the fact that prior to becoming its modern day nation- state Germany used to comprise of many tribes who were constantly at war with each other.
  6. The Nobel prize has been awarded to German writers on no less that 13 occassions.
  7. The Germans are an inventive nation having inventented the lightbulb, insulin, the pocket watch, paraffin, gasoline and diesel engines to name a few.
  8. German New Year celebrations often include watching the 1963 Brisih comedy sketch "Dinner for One". Every year approxiamtley half the nation watching the 11 minutes television comedy dating form 1963.
  9. The word "ecology" was coined by German biologist Ernst Haeckel in 1866.
  10.  Germany motorway network or "autobahn" is the oldest in the world, the first section was completed in 1932. It also has no speed limit!
